Day 7 drips and drains removed

I had a much better night and woke up to being told my catheter was coming out. Mark came early as Brighton were playing later. He is happy as they won, in case you are interested. Then shortly after I had a rather weepy time being a bit bullied, but it would not be fair to dwell on this as it is not right to talk about staff members here. The vast majority of staff I have got on well with and they have tolerated my “OCD” on admin, but some don’t. The matron came and sorted me out, shoulder to cry on, kind words and sympathy and gave me the best news everything else was being taken out of me by her. So having got rid of the Nasal Gastric tube I am glad to say I can talk a bit better. In reality just a few dressings left, and pain, and lack of energy. I am struggling to eat, but drinking milk is working. Tomorrow I will post the lists I have been given on dos and donts of what I can eat. I have also had a shower and climbed a few stairs. Saw my consultant, each time I have a few more questions – well you would not expect anything less!

Lovely middle of the day seeing daughter 1 and 2 and watching England get their gold and bronze. Rowena came in early evening, but I was less good company.

However from 4pm I have had trapped wind – OMG it is so painful and hopefully will pass (pardon the pun) soon. It is now 8.30! So hence I am a bit later in my composition. I should be going home Monday/Tuesday and might get results next week – fingers crossed. Game of two halves I think.

Love to all. Keep messaging.

  1. Dear dear Fiona, so so pleased things are finally looking up for you and have been glued to your daily updates. You are so very brave and how you manage to keep some sense of humour throughout this… you’re all amazing. Absolutely delighted about Rowena’s Glasgow news, just what she had wanted so really hope the interview goes well. Am about to text her! Had a lovely message from Mark.. – I think they’ve enjoyed my Spanish chicken so far!! Take care and roll on Monday or Tuesday when you’re home. Much love, Rosie and all the family xxx

  2. Hi Fiona
Glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better, despite the inevitable irritations of being in hospital for so long.
It was lovely to see Izzy this afternoon for a cup of tea and a chat. Hugh is home revising and so they were able to catch up.
I will come and visit when you get home but in the meantime just let me know if there’s anything you need. We are just around the corner.
    Lots of love
    Vicky and family
    Xxxx

  3. Try asking them for some peppermint water for trapped wind, if you take small sips in warm water it really helps. It took Issy about two weeks to get her appetite back after her Scoliosis surgery and the dizziness and sickness was with her for about that long to, they call it the Morphine effect! Hope that they allow you home next week you will be much more comfortable in your own bed and hopefully I can come and visit. Glad the Seagulls won these men are awfully hard to live with when they lose!! Keep your spirits up we are all routing for you Lxx

  4. You’re doing so well Fiona, everything crossed for a positive report. Try going on Facebook and looking at the picture of the squirrel climbing up my leg! That should make you laugh and laughter is the best medicine xxxx

    1. Laughing, coughing and sneezing are not necessarily the best for abdominal surgery! It hurts, but I love to see videos

  5. So pleased you are making progress Fiona even if the steps forward are not as fast/long as you would like. Suspect there will be a few backward steps in your journey, hopefully not too many. “Marching On” will have to be your mantra! So hope you get to go home soon. Brilliant news that Rowena has the interview for Glasgow. Fingers crossed for her🤞🤞 and you too! 🤞🤞
Lots of love Fiona and to Mark and the girls also. Valerie and Martin xx
